Asia’s biggest LEGO school competition, the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2026, returns for its fifth edition at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort. This event gathers young creators across the region to celebrate creativity and innovation through play.
Since its start in 2022, the Challenge has evolved from a local initiative into a regional platform, attracting many submissions from schools in Asia. In partnership with Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, the 2026 edition aims to inspire future innovators through hands-on STEAM learning, aligned with the LEGO philosophy of learning through play.
New 2026 Challenge: The Ultimate Theme Park Ride
This year, student teams of three to four people can join in three age groups: Junior (7–9 years), Primary (10–12 years), and Secondary (13–17 years). Their task is to design their most imaginative theme park attraction.
Teams can create rides that are magical, futuristic, space-themed, or underwater. Each attraction must have at least one ride vehicle or carriage. Teams can earn extra points by adding a moving part, either by hand or with a motor, and are encouraged to use creative displays or models to show off their ride.
The final model should show the full ride experience and reflect creativity, functionality, and quality of build. Teams must also share a clear and exciting story about their idea, along with a short description (50 to 100 words) in English explaining their LEGO creation.
“The LEGOLAND School Challenge has evolved into more than a competition – it is a regional platform that empowers young minds to think boldly, collaborate across cultures, and turn imagination into innovation,” said Cs Lim, Vice President of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort.
“By launching this year’s Challenge in Singapore, we are reinforcing our commitment to building stronger regional participation and giving students across Asia the opportunity to showcase their creativity on an international stage. Via learning-through-play, we are nurturing future-ready skills that extend far beyond the classroom.”
The Grand Finale: More Speed, Higher Stakes
The 2026 Challenge introduces several enhancements designed to push students’ creativity and problem-solving even further:
- The “Make or Break” Speed Build: For the first time, the Live Speed Build Finale will account for 30% of the total score, up from 20% in previous years, making it a critical factor in determining the winners.
- Extended Build Time: Finalists will now have one hour (up from 45 minutes). The theme, revealed on the event day, may differ from the main competition theme, challenging teams to think quickly and adapt creatively on the spot.
- Parents & Teachers Challenge: A new 15-minute fun build round invites teachers and parents to showcase their creativity alongside the student teams.
Prizes Worth Building For
This year, LEGOLAND Malaysia has partnered with Trip.com to reward the best builders. Champions from the Primary and Secondary Categories will win trips to LEGOLAND Shanghai, while Junior Category champions will visit LEGOLAND Malaysia.
The top five teams from each category will attend the Grand Finale at LEGOLAND Malaysia, enjoying a three-day, two-night stay at the LEGOLAND Hotel and competing live during the event, with their builds showcased until the end of 2026.
All champions will receive a LEGOLAND Malaysia Annual Pass, a LEGO trophy, LEGO sets, and a Certificate of Achievement.
