iQiyi has just dropped a spooky two-minute trailer for their upcoming Southeast Asian Original series The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang which premiering on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com on 24th August 2021.
The series features iQiyi’s first international VIP ambassador, Lawrence Wong, who plays Xia Dong Qing, a character whose “Yin Yang eyes” allow him to see and communicate with beings from other worlds. Audiences can follow his exciting journey as he gets into countless supernatural escapades with his fellow co-star Qi Yuwu, who plays the grim reaper Zhao Li. Making her global debut alongside the two veteran actors is rising Taiwanese starlet Kate Kinney, who plays Olivia (Xiao Ya), a young woman who becomes Xia Dong Qing’s trusted confidante after her close brush with death. Kate’s breakout role as an ordinary girl who suddenly finds herself entwined in a series of dark events is definitely one to watch!
In the teaser trailer, Lawrence Wong battles a long-nailed ghost, gets attacked and locked up by a masked mob, and faces a near-death experience. Fans will also spot Kate Kinney in a morbid scene, looking alluring in a bright pink wig, a silky outfit, and excessively long lash extensions — all while being tortured upon a spinning trolley. Meanwhile, Qi Yuwu is seen being struck by pink lightning, and suavely saving numerous damsels in distress.
The trailer also revealed other familiar faces set to appear in the series, such as Singaporean actress Jeanette Aw, and Malaysian actresses Koe Yeet, Debbie Goh and Emily Chan.
