iQiyi’s First SEA Original Series, The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang, premiering globally on 24th Aug; available in 4K and Dolby Atmos

iQiyi has announced their very first Southeast Asian Original and exclusive series The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang will be premiering on 24th August 2021! The series is also the first Original title to be available in 4K and Dolby Atmos, allowing viewers to have an immersive viewing and audio experience quality.

Co-produced with GHY Culture and Media (The Little Nyonya), the highly-anticipated series features a star-studded cast. This includes iQiyi’s first International VIP Ambassador and Malaysian-born actor Lawrence Wong, alongside fellow Singaporean stars Qi Yu Wu, Tay Ping Hui, Jeanette Aw. Other homegrown Malaysian celebrities making an appearance are Jojo Goh, Lim Ming Zhen and Koe Yeet. The series will kickoff with 4 episodes on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com soon.

Take a peek into the underworld through the “Yin Yang eyes” of protagonist Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong), as he works with his trusty and suave partner Zhao Li (Qi Yu Wu) to communicate with distressed wandering souls, and help them with their unfinished business in the mortal world.

Looking to earn some extra income as he prepares for his postgraduate exams, Dong Qing starts working as a part-time assistant at the No. 444 convenience store. He soon learns that the store is actually the nexus between the mortal and spiritual realms, where deceased souls pass through upon death.   Concurrently, he discovers that his special ability to see spirits was bestowed upon him by Zhao Li, a grim reaper patrolling the mortal world with a hidden agenda.

The series juxtaposes the past and the present, and features ghosts and spirits from a range of folklore and myths — including the ghost bride, the beauty-obsessed and power-hungry nine-tailed fox, and the two-horned devil (Tay Ping Hui). With new fantastical beings in every episode, viewers will be on the edge of their seats as the story unfolds in unexpected ways.

iQiyi International’s VIP subscribers with compatible devices in both Standard and Premium tiers will also be able to revel in an unparalleled audio-visual experience. Starting from 24th August, viewers can watch the 36-episode series on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com, with new episodes premiering every Tuesday and Friday at 8pm.
