IEC Telecom Group has launched its office in Malaysia, expanding its internet services across Southeast Asia. The company aims to provide Starlink satellite internet to businesses and communities that face connectivity challenges, especially in remote rural areas and in the maritime sector, which often depends on satellite communication for daily operations.
This expansion comes as Malaysia strives for greater digital connectivity. By the end of 2025, internet coverage is expected to reach 99.71% in populated areas, a significant increase from 91.8% before the government’s National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) began. However, the situation is different in rural areas, particularly in East Malaysia. As of mid-2025, government data shows that 5G coverage stands at 63.8% in Sarawak and 68.6% in Sabah, indicating that there is still a lot of room for growth. For remote schools, fishing communities, and businesses away from cities, reliable internet is still hard to find.
In response, the government has included satellite connectivity in its national plans. This was demonstrated through a successful project in Kampung Orang Asli Kerling, Hulu Selangor, in 2024, which provided broadband access to 260 indigenous residents and 100 students for the first time. This achievement has highlighted the need for satellite-based connectivity in Malaysia’s remote areas.
IEC Telecom Malaysia offers advanced Starlink solutions aimed at improving last-mile connectivity, supporting digital transformation in the region, and ensuring continuous operations across various industries. The company will provide tailored satellite communication services for sectors like energy, maritime, government, logistics, and remote businesses, guaranteeing stable and high-performance connectivity where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
“As one of the earliest Starlink partners since December 2022, IEC Telecom is uniquely positioned to leverage its global expertise in support of Malaysia’s digital ambitions,” comments Antoine Veillon, Group CEO at IEC Telecom. “With more than 30 years of international experience and over two decades of established presence across the Asia-Pacific region, we bring both scale and regional insight. The launch of our Malaysia office — our third in APAC — further reinforces our long-term commitment to the market and to advancing resilient, future-ready connectivity across the region.”
IEC Telecom goes beyond just providing Starlink satellite connectivity by creating fully integrated systems instead of just offering airtime. The company builds managed setups that support many users and different needs within one framework. With an advanced network management layer, these solutions offer centralised visibility, control, and performance improvement via a special management portal, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performance connectivity suited to local operations.
“Malaysia is a strategically important market for digital expansion across Southeast Asia,” said Hisham Ghaffar, Managing Director, APAC, IEC Telecom. “As an authorized Starlink reseller, IEC Telecom Malaysia will fill connectivity gaps with satellite solutions that work where traditional infrastructure doesn’t. That means businesses can operate reliably, and more communities get online.”
IEC Telecom Malaysia is licensed by The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. The company offers satellite, terrestrial, and hybrid networks along with value-added services, technical support, and customized setups. The Malaysia office will provide local expertise and create solutions that align with the country’s digital development needs.
