How to be productive during stay at home period

Well, the Malaysian government has extended the Movement Control Order (MCO) to combat the COVID-19 outbreak and many people will be wondering how are they going to spend the time behind their house. But as modern technology has advanced, it is actually much easier to fill our time to be more productive during the stay at home period. So here are the 5 tips that modern technologies I believe you should check out during MCO is in effect:

1. Food Delivery app

I would definitely confirmed that most Malaysian will be relying on home-cooked meals or instant noodles during the MCO period. And yes, you will be quickly getting bored with it. Good news is that the food delivery services are still running. Modern delivery service app is so advanced that you can deliver your favourite bubble tea or lovely meal right to your doorstep. During the MCO period, the food delivery companies like GrabFood and foodpanda are giving their users free delivery service. For GrabFood, apply code FREEDEL to enjoy free delivery with a min spend of RM28. For foodpanda, it is free delivery for all and you can apply code PANDAPAL to enjoy 30% savings off your order. T&Cs apply.

2. Filling in the gap for Social Distancing

Be it whether you’re a Malaysian or not, the public has been advised to practice social distancing. However, you still need to contact with your family, friends and love one that could be staying very far from you. Fortunately with video call apps, you could literally organised a virtual yumcha (drinking) and makan (eating) sessions at home via video calls. There is two video call apps that I would recommend to get which are both mobile and desktop-friendly are Skype and Zoom.

Skype’s group video chat now allows up to 50 users in one call. You can also try out Zoom that is able to host up to 100 participants in a call! Only catch is that you will have to refresh after 40 minutes if you are not a premium account holder.

3. Shopping safely from home

Missing the good old days of window shopping at malls? However, did you know modern window shopping is so much easier and comfortable. You could virtually browse from a very long list of items from across various categories from e-commerce platforms such as Shopee. The online shopping app is still operating as usual and continue delivering daily necessities and shopping needs to Malaysians. If you’re worried of any price raised during the MCO period, well don’t be afraid as Shopee is organising a sale on 27 March and 4 April. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet then you better do so as there will be attractive items on sale for only RM0.44!

4. Trending entertainment

Totally clueless who is the actor or actress that was mentioned in a random conversation? Not spending enough quality time together like watching a movie or TV series with your family or loved ones? Well, now you have the time to stream all your movies or TV series your friends have been raving on about like Crash Landing on You on Netflix. Netflix is a streaming service which let user watch unlimited movies and TV shows on your phone, tablet, laptop and TV. With packages starting from RM17 a month, you can get up to speed with the entertainment world.

5. Burning calories through technology

Nintendo Switch

Trying to hit the gym but refuse to pay the monthly membership due to work schedule? There is an alternative way to learn exercise like simple stretching to tabata workouts. Time to start searching out for these free tutorial workout videos which is available on YouTube.

But if you want to enjoy while burning calories, get the Nintendo Switch. You can enjoy various game that requires you to stand up and move your muscle like Just Dance 2020,  Zumba Burn It Up!, RingFit and Fitness Boxing. No more complaints about exercise is boring from now on.

Well, there you have it. Modern technologies have always been keeping our lifestyle way much easier and productive when compared to the good old days. Hopefully with this 5 tips, it will help you throughout the MCO period. As usual, stay safe and keep your hygiene.
