HBO l Max recently has received 14 Emmy wins at the 76th annual Emmy Awards and across the Creative Arts Ceremonies.
Hacks has won three (3) Emmys including OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES marking the first Emmys program win for the series and the first ever Emmy program win for a Max Original. Also, this is the third time for Jean Smart won the OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS in a Comedy Series Emmy for her role as Deborah Vance and the second time Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky have won the OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A COMEDY SERIES Emmy after winning the Emmy for the show’s first season.
The combination of HBO and Max has won four (4) of the six (6) Emmys for OUTSTANDING WRITING, making Max the most Emmy-winning platform for Writing less than a year after the conclusion of the WGA strike. HBO and Max wins for writing include Conan O’Brien Must Go (non-fiction), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (variety series), Hacks (comedy) and Alex Edelman: Just for Us (variety special).
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver secured two (2) Emmys, including OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A VARIETY SERIES and OUTSTANDING SCRIPTED VARIETY SERIES. This is the 9th consecutive Emmy wins for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver for both Program and Writing.
Jodie Foster won her first ever Emmy tonight for OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR MOVIE for her role as Detective Elizabeth Danvers in True Detective: Night Country. Meanwhile, Alex Edelman: Just for Us won OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A VARIETY SPECIAL, marking the first ever Emmy win for Alex Edelman.
