Internationally known DJ and producer Dipha Barus has released a new single, BATARA, featuring singer-songwriter Jinan Laetitia, through Ultra Records. The track, debuted at the Djakarta Warehouse Project 2024, combines modern electronic beats with ancient mysticism for an engaging experience for club-goers and electronic music fans.
Created in 2023 after a meaningful trip to his ancestral land of Tanah Karo, BATARA draws inspiration from the spiritual beliefs of the Karonese people. The main idea is Batara, which means “the higher power,” a sacred force in their ancient belief system called pemena. Dipha explains, “This track is more than a song—it’s a personal story. My journey to Tanah Karo was deeply spiritual, and BATARA is my way of sharing that experience through music. It’s about honoring my roots and being genuine.”
His collaboration with Jinan Laetitia added to the track’s impact. Dipha shares, “I first met Jinan through a friend, and I’ve admired her voice and talent ever since. When she recorded the demo for BATARA, it was amazing—it felt like the song came to life. The creative process in the studio was magical, with spontaneous ideas shaping the track.”
With rich production and moving lyrics, BATARA touches on themes of spirituality, connection, and nature. Its dreamy energy creates vivid images, inviting listeners to scenes like jungle parties in Tulum or starlit gatherings in the Egyptian desert. Dipha mentions, “It’s a song that goes beyond borders, perfect for intimate, otherworldly spaces.”
After its exciting debut at Djakarta Warehouse Project, where the crowd’s enthusiastic response showed its broad appeal, BATARA represents another step in sharing deep cultural richness through music. Dipha adds, “It’s about being true to my experiences.”
As Dipha prepares for an exciting 2025, fans can expect more dance tracks that mix Indonesian cultural elements with club-ready beats. He hints, “This year will include pop songs in Indonesian and releases inspired by traditional Karo music.”
