BYD Malaysia proceed Light the Change CSR Programme with Tree Planting Initiative at The Waterfront @ ParkCity

BYD Malaysia is moving ahead with its BYD Light the Change CSR program by turning over 1,200 public promises into real environmental actions through a tree planting project at The Waterfront @ ParkCity.

The program encourages people to work together for a more sustainable future by combining environmental responsibility with community involvement. After a festival last year, the promises made through a digital tree initiative are now being put into action.

To support BYD’s global goal of cooling the Earth by 1°C, BYD Malaysia is now planting real trees in stages, making progress in its mission to create a positive environmental impact.

In honor of Earth Day, the event included teams from BYD Sime Motors, BYD and DENZA dealer partners, BYD Malaysia employees, media representatives, as well as people from The Waterfront @ ParkCity and students from The International School of ParkCity (ISPKL). This reflects the teamwork that is central to Light the Change. A total of 120 participants planted 120 trees of 10 different native species, chosen to boost biodiversity and help restore urban green spaces.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to turning intention into action,” said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia. “Through BYD Light the Change, we are creating opportunities for our partners, communities, and the younger generation to be part of something meaningful. It is not about scale alone, but about consistently driving efforts that go beyond what we do as a business, and making a lasting difference where it matters.”

The trees were planted using the Miyawaki method, which helps forests grow up to 10 times faster and 30 times denser, creating self-sustaining ecosystems in just 2 to 3 years.

As the program moves forward, BYD Light the Change will look at more than just planting trees in cities; it will also include restoring other ecosystems, like mangroves. BYD Malaysia will keep track of how the trees are growing and share updates over time.

BYD Light the Change: Supporting Communities in Times of Need

Beyond helping the environment, Light the Change also shows BYD Malaysia’s dedication to supporting the community. After the recent fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, which left many families homeless, BYD Malaysia stepped in with relief efforts.

Teaming up with BYD Sime Motors and BYD Regas in Kota Kinabalu, BYD Malaysia organized collection points at dealerships and delivered needed supplies directly to the affected areas. The team visited PPS Gelanggang Futsal Sim-Sim, where many displaced families are staying, and also went to PPS Dewan Serbaguna Warga Tua and PPS Sibuga, helping a total of 1,000 victims. At these locations, they distributed over 250 essential items like bottled water and food supplies.

“Our thoughts are with the families impacted,” said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia. “Through Light the Change, we remain committed not only to environmental responsibility, but also to supporting communities when it matters most.”
