2K and Gearbox Software has recently shared an extended look gameplay for the Borderlands 4, during a dedicated PlayStation’s State of Play. Borderlands 4 will launch on September 12, 2025 on PlayStation5 (PS5) console, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2025.

In the extended gameplay footage, players got a glimpse of two new Vault Hunters in Borderlands 4. Vex the Siren can empower herself or summon shades for combat, while Rafa the Exo-Soldier uses an experimental exo-suit to access a wide array of weapons. Each Vault Hunter provides a unique playstyle enhanced by a refined skill tree system.
On the planet of Kairos, players confront the Timekeeper, who oppresses its inhabitants with cybernetic Bolts and synthetic soldiers called The Order. Players will explore various regions, battling characters and enlisting allies, while showcasing the Vault Hunters’ arsenal.
In explosive footage from PlayStation’s State of Play, Vex and Rafa wild through a secret blacksite in Terminus Range, highlighting the updated gear system in Borderlands 4, fueling an epic loot chase, including:
- Deadly weapons from across eight new and returning manufacturers, each boasting their own devastating strengths;
- Licensed Parts system that combines the behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers into a single weapon;
- Enhancements gear slot to augment weapons based on their manufacturer, rewarding extra firepower with an optimized gear loadout;
- Ordnance, a shared slot for Grenades and Heavy Weapons like rocket launchers, recharges on a cooldown to keep you locked and loaded during especially tough encounters;
- Rep Kit gear adds utility by letting players heal themselves or activate temporary buffs to help turn the tide of an intense battle.
Borderlands 4 makes it easy for friends to play together in co-op multiplayer with a new system that lets players form parties online and switch game modes without losing each other. The game is built for co-op, featuring loot unique to each player, adjustable level difficulty, and individual challenges to ensure the team enjoys the campaign together.
