BMW Group Malaysia today announced the arrival of the 2026 BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro – the first fully electric BMW model to be locally assembled – along with the 2026 BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, the long-wheelbase version of BMW’s popular compact electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). These new models enhance the brand’s growing lineup of electrified offerings, delivering greater range and innovation to meet rising demand for premium electric mobility in Malaysia.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro signifies a milestone for BMW Group Malaysia, being the first fully electric BMW assembled in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific. This executive sedan is perfect for both business and private journeys, featuring fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology with up to 627 km of electric range (WLTP) and advanced driving assistance systems. Additionally, the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport adds a stylish, spacious variant to the iX1 series, one year after the launch of the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport, offering enhanced rear-room comfort and an electric range of 433 km (WLTP).
A modern interpretation of executive sportiness – the 2026 Locally Assembled BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro
The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport Pro has a stylish exterior that combines smooth lines and sporty details. The illuminated grille is a standout feature at the front, along with modern LED headlights. Its sleek shape leads to a sculpted rear with slender taillights for extra flair. The M Sport Pro package features 20-inch bicolour wheels, a glossy black rear spoiler, and sporty blue brakes for a dynamic look. It offers 490 liters of luggage space, which can be expanded and easily accessed with an automatic tailgate.
Inside, the driver-focused BMW Curved Display is the heart of the dashboard, featuring a 12.3-inch display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. It’s designed for easy use with voice and touch controls. The innovative BMW Interaction Bar runs across the dashboard and doors, offering touch controls and ambient lighting while hiding the air vents. The BMW i5 also has sporty elements like an M Leather steering wheel and M seat belts.
The interior features luxurious details like Dark Silver M accents, Carbon Fibre, and high-quality Merino leather. A panoramic glass roof adds a feeling of space and comes with a retractable shade. Comfort is enhanced with fully electric sports seats that have memory functions, climate control with four zones, wireless charging, and an interior camera for photos and videos. The back seat offers plenty of room for passengers, along with Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 17 speakers for great audio quality.
Under the hood, the BMW i5 delivers impressive performance with an updated electric system. Its rear motor produces 340 hp and helps the car go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds, with a top speed of 193 km/h. It features advanced battery technology and efficient temperature management, allowing for a range of up to 627 km on a full charge. Charging options include fast charging capabilities that can fully charge the battery in just over 4 hours or do a quick charge in 34 minutes.
The BMW i5 comes with numerous Driving Assistance Systems for added safety. Standard features include Distance Control, Lane Assist, Speed Limit Assist, and various warning systems. The Parking Assistant Plus offers helpful parking features, including a reverse camera and 3D views.
For connectivity, the BMW Operating System 8.5 offers easy smartphone-like interaction and smart navigation. It includes services like BMW Live Cockpit, Teleservices, and smartphone integration. There are also features for proactive care, service tracking, and accident assistance.
Available exterior colors are Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Phytonic Blue Metallic, and Oxide Grey Metallic, while the interior offers BMW Individual Leather ‘Merino’ Black/Atlas Grey upholstery.
Dynamic proportions with extended comfort – the 2026 BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport.
Introducing a longer BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, which has a 110 mm longer wheelbase and is 116 mm longer overall, improving both its look and interior space. The new design includes an enclosed grille with Extended Shadowline trim and X-shaped lines. The sleek Adaptive LED headlights now have M Lights Shadowline. On the sides, flush door handles and square wheel arches house the 19-inch M light-alloy wheels. The back features stylish L-shaped three-dimensional taillights with full-LED technology. Other exterior details include high-gloss Shadowline M Roof rails and mirrors. It has a luggage capacity of 490 litres, expandable to 1,600 litres, with an automatic tailgate.
Inside, the longer wheelbase creates an extra 81 mm of legroom and 107 mm of knee space. The seats have softer foam and are extended by 15 mm. The driver enjoys a BMW Head-Up Display and a BMW Curved Display with BMW Operating System 9 for easy controls, while sporty elements include an M Leather steering wheel and Aluminium Hexacube Pale M trim. A key feature is the Panoramic Skyroof without a central support bar, ensuring a clear view and privacy with an electric fabric shade. Other comfort features include sport seats, electric seats with memory, a luxury instrument panel, automatic air conditioning, a wireless charging tray, and a 205-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers.
The BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport is powered by a compact electric motor on the front axle, producing 150 kW / 204 hp and 250 Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h. The new comfort-focused suspension is designed for a smoother ride. The latest BMW eDrive technology includes flat battery cells in the floorpan, with a 66.5 kWh (gross) battery offering up to 433 km range (WLTP). Charging takes 6 hours and 45 minutes using 11 kW AC, while DC Charging at up to 130 kW can go from 10 to 80% in 32 minutes, providing 120 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Now standard, the Driving Assistance Plus includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Info, and Lane Departure Warning. Parking Assistant Plus offers features like Surround View, Remote 3D View, and Park Assist Professional for safe urban driving. It also includes active safety measures for pedestrians.
