Malaysian rapper, singer-songwriter and producer Airliftz has released his latest single “Princess Bubblegum”.
This time, Airliftz has constructed a concoction of new flavors, serving a fresh take on being lovesick with this saccharine hit. Candied with mellifluous lyrics written in both English and Bahasa Melayu, the track packs a punch in a glorious technicolor of sounds from jazz, afrobeat, to alternative R&B. The title aptly pays homage to the Ruler of the Candy People from Adventure Time herself, Princess Bubblegum.
Airliftz teams up with producer and genre-bending multidisciplinary artist Shelhiel, bridging both their tastes and skills to create an unforgettable world for “Princess Bubblegum”, which exists on its own as a testament to the budding talent within the Southeast Asian region.
“The process of making this song was to also get to know Shelhiel sonically. See where we’re both at in music. I think the challenge (when writing this song) was for me to be vulnerable and to just have fun when it comes to creating”, Airliftz says.
The track’s accompanying visual components include a music video dropping on 26 May where we see Airliftz dabble in his ballroom capabilities, throwing himself in a visual duet of a lover’s dance, where he adds:
“The music video is just perfect for it. Being a Malay, Muslim man, I just want to be able to break barriers when it comes to creating. The video is sexy, sensual but not to the extreme point”.
“I want our listeners to also understand that there’s variety in the kind of music that we’re able to make rather than sticking to what’s mainstream. I want people to vibe and allow themselves to feel sexy and confident”, he concludes.
