5G in Malaysia: MNOs in talks with Govt for next steps in offer of 5G SPV shareholding

With the recent announcement by Malaysian government on maintaining the Single Wholesale Network (SWN) model for 5G, Celcom Axiata Berhad, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Berhad and U Mobile Sdn Bhd (MNOs) has officially expressed their interest to meet with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) to further understand and explore the equity stake offer in DNB and the process moving forward. 

At of now, the MNOs hopes to quickly discuss and seek input from the Government on the details of the proposed equity stake offer. Moreover, they are are keen to collaborate with MoF/K-KOMM and look forward to an approach that is typical of any major Mergers and Acquisitions process. The MNOs have recommended to set up project teams to align on processes such as due diligence, transaction timelines and other administrative matters.

Let’s hope we can get 5G service immediately in Malaysia as 5G will brings a lot of benefit to Malaysian businesses and individuals.
