Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the 2026 Volkswagen Golf R, the latest evolution of the brand’s performance hatch. The latest R model in the Golf series now combines cutting-edge digitalisation, dynamic design enhancements, and the most powerful production Golf engine to date.
The 2026 Golf R in Malaysia, is the only country outside of Germany to locally assemble the Golf R, at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan.
Performance
The 2026 edition gets an enhanced powertrain – a 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine with an output of up to 333PS, making it the most powerful production Golf currently in the market. Together with a 7-speed DSG transmission, it is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
Enhanced torque (420 Nm) sent to all four wheels via 4MOTION increases stability and precision in corners. The R Performance Torque Vectoring system distributes torque between the rear wheels for sharper turn-in and improved cornering dynamics for drifting enthusiasts.
The 2026 Golf R has multiple drive modes including Comfort, Sport, Race, Drift, and Individual.
Exterior
The new Golf R features a bold design that enhances its road presence such as sharper lines define a more expressive, modern look from the front, with an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front bumper, and a new front bumper. This combination offers as an additional identifying feature, giving it a sportier, more aggressive stance.
There are also exclusive ‘R’ styling elements, including the R Performance titanium quad exhaust system from Akrapovič and aerodynamic accents make for a classic motorsport inspired look and a more emotive exhaust note. The new Golf R is equipped with a lightweight 19-inch ‘Estoril’ Alloy wheels; designed to deliver the performance and aesthetic.
IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights feature a new powerful main beam. The updated IQ.LIGHT 3D LED taillights, with dynamic turn signals and animated graphics, add a stylish touch to their function.
The colour options for the 2026 edition are the new Dolphin Grey, along with Lapiz Blue, Grenadilla Black, and Pure White.
Interior
Inside, the Golf R features a sporty cabin with advanced digital innovation.
