Wing Hin Motorsports heads to Japan for expansion of driver development program

Having won the Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Clubman Series last year, Malaysia’s Wing Hin Motorsports is focusing on expanding its presence in Japan to help grow racing talent from Asia.

In partnership with Masahiro Sasaki, a Gazoo Racing and Rookie Racing driver, the Malaysian team will compete with two drivers in the opening of the 2026 Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Clubman Series this weekend as part of its Driver Development Program. Wing Hin Motorsports won the Series in its first year with Naquib Azlan and achieved 4th place overall with another Malaysian driver, Amer Harris.

This year, Wing Hin Motorsports will have Malaysian racing star Mitchell Cheah and Indonesian Jordan Johan in the Series, with Round 1 taking place at the Autopolis Circuit.

Even though Cheah has never raced at Autopolis, he has an impressive racing background. He led Wing Hin Motorsports’ European campaign and secured 4th in his class in the 4-Hour ADAC Nurburgring Langstrecken Series in 2025.

At 28, he was one of the key drivers who helped Wing Hin Motorsports win the 2025 TSS The Super Series GT4 Class championship, as well as the 2024 Toyota GAZOO Racing Vios Challenge Super Sporting Class title, the 2022 Malaysia Championship Series – MTC championship, and the 2019 Sepang 1000 KM Class race.

His racing career began in 2011, starting from karting to saloon car racing. He made history as the first Asian driver in the Touring Car Series in Asia and Germany in 2019, and in 2021, he was named one of the Hyundai Junior Drivers. He was also the runner-up in the 2018 TCR Asia Series and received the National Driver of the Year award in 2017 at the Shell SIC Motorsports Association of Malaysia Awards.

In the second GR86, Jordan will also be making his debut in Japan under Sasaki’s guidance, representing Toyota GAZOO Racing Indonesia.

Jordan is the 2024 national champion (Rising Star) in Indonesia’s ITCR 1200 Series. He started his touring car racing career in 2017 in the Indonesia Touring Car Championship.

A law student at Trisakti University in Indonesia, he drives for Toyota Gazoo Racing Indonesia. Recently, he finished 2nd in the Pertamina 6 Hours Endurance Race. He is also the brother of Julian Johan, one of the first two Indonesians to finish in the top 10 of the Dakar Classic category in 2026, recognized as one of the toughest endurance races held in the deserts of Saudi Arabia.

Wing Hin Motorsports’ customer racing program, which started last year, will assist drivers with cars, technical support, data analysis, track engineering, and driver coaching.

“The long-term goal is to create a pipeline for not only Malaysians but also Southeast Asian drivers to progress into higher-levels of racing in Japan. Sasaki will play a key role in driver development and coaching, and exposure in Japan is aimed at elevating the experience, discipline, mindset, race craft and driving proficiency,” said Wing Hin Motorsports Team Principal.

“2025 was the start to making this a reality and it turned out to be a phenomenally strong showing for Wing Hin Motorsports despite it being our first full year of competing in both the series and in Japan. As a new team, we were on an accelerated learning curve and the challenge was of course to learn the many new circuits and in acquiring sufficient on-track data to be competitive…but the team demonstrated a strong fighting spirit and we ended the season on top. This was unexpected, and it has highly motivated us to return to repeat this performance.”

The 2026 Toyota GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Cup will take place over seven rounds. The season starts this weekend, and the second round will be from May 16-17 at Sportsland Sugo. The third round is scheduled for June 27-28 at Okayama International Circuit, and the fourth round will be on August 8-9 at Tokachi Speedway. Round five is set for September 5-6 at Fuji Speedway, followed by round six on October 3-4 at Suzuka Circuit. The final round will take place at Mobility Resort Montegi on November 21-22.

Wing Hin Motorsports’ 2026 racing season is supported by their long-time partner Moty’s and will be using the latest Moty’s engine oil developed using RRBO (Re-Refined Base Oil) — a base oil produced by re-refining used engine oil.
