U Mobile has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, an industry-wide initiative that aims to provide a framework of universal network Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) to enable universal access to operator networks for developers.

With this, U Mobile commits to participate and collaborate in a series of GSMA activities that works towards meeting the goals of the GSMA Open Gateway. With the rapid adoption of 5G and advent of 5G-Advanced, GSMA Open Gateway’s network of common and open APIs will connect developers to telcos, harmonising services to enable innovations to be tested and even commercialised at a greater speed.

The MoU with GSMA was signed by Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, along with other telecommunications industry peers at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Spain. The signing was witnessed by YBhg. Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din, Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Chairman.
