iQiyi will premiering their first prison-themed Chinese language series, Danger Zone, 3rd September 2021 with an award-winning cast, including stars such as Vic Chou, Sandrine Pinna, Wu Hsing-kuo, Christopher Lee, Berant Zhu, Tseng Chin-hua and Teresa Daley.
Danger Zone is iQiyi’s first drama to be produced in chapters. While the plot of 24-episode series will focus on a single mind-bending mystery, the two chapters “In the Dark Night” and “The Silver Lining”, serve to highlight the show’s thematic shifts between darkness and light. The chapters also reflect the darker hidden personalities of the characters, as well as their journey towards discovering the truth despite the odds stacked against them.
The latest teaser trailer for Danger Zone meanwhile, shines a spotlight on Singapore’s Best TV Actor Christopher Lee in his role as a police officer — it has been almost 20 years since he last played a cop. To embody his wild and unrestrained character Captain Tan in the drama, Christopher sports shoulder-length hair and a moustache for the first time; an uncharacteristically sloppy look rarely seen on him. Leaning into his natural charm, Christopher exudes charisma as a zealous police officer intent on cracking the case. Whether its doggedly investigating cases, or chasing criminals in action-packed scenes, he deftly switches between different modes of acting to bring Captain Tan’s character to life.
Christopher revealed that he didn’t cut his hair for a year in preparation for the role, letting it grow out to 40cm long. Saying that his wife, the famous actress Fann Wong, was already used to him changing his looks for his acting roles, he laughingly added, “But my son prefers his dad without a beard, because that way his face won’t get pricked.”
Christopher Lee’s award-winning acting skills are on full display in Danger Zone, and will leave audiences in awe. Deftly switching into different modes as he investigates cases and chases after criminals, he has perfected the demeanour of a veteran detective — the type who can leave people in fear with just one glance. In describing his character, he says, “One minute I’m a lion and the next minute, I’m pretending to be crazy. It’s like I’m a mad dog who bites at the sight of something wrong.”
With the trailer showing him swearing and yelling at the newbie police officer Ren Fei (played by Berant Zhu), Christopher admits that he swears a lot in the drama and often goes into fits of rage. When asked about the similarities between his own personality and his character of Captain Tan, Christopher states that while both he and Captain Tan may look serious, they actually love to joke around. Commenting on the two’s biggest differences however, Christopher laughed, saying, “In real life, I don’t swear. Swearing is not good!”
iQIYI’s first prison-themed Chinese language series Danger Zone will be streaming every Friday from 3rd September onwards, , exclusively on iQIYI in 191 countries around the world.
