2025 HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition review: A serious alternative large flagship tablet to consider

If you’re looking for a flagship tablet in Malaysia or around the globe, 2025 HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte editionshould be eligible on your buying list. It has the performance, display, speakers and battery to power your productivity, gaming and entertainment. So, let’s learn more about the HUAWEI tablet at below.

Design – Contemporary stylish yet light and durable

The MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is made with aviation-grade magnesium alloy middle frame and delicate glass fibre back cover are scratch-resistant, giving the users a peace of mind with durability. On the back, you also noticed the new Space Ring design for the camera bump. There are speaker grilles on both side while the top left feature the volume rocker, power button/fingerprint scanner is on the left top, and the right centre house the USB Type-C charging port

The tablet is also light and thin, measured at 5.5 mm body and weigh just at 580 g. For the Malaysia market, it is only offered in Premium Gold colour and it does offer a striking look.

Also in the box, you get the HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard White, which helps a lot to make the tablet into a laptop replacement. It’s easy to attach it and ergonomic is quite good for those planning to type for a long period.

Display – PaperMatte awesomeness, low glare, high responsive

The display on the MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is using a Flexible OLED PaperMatte Display, which offers 2.8K, 2880 × 1920 resolution and supports up to 144Hz refresh rate. With an innovative optical film layer and etching technology, the Flexible OLED PaperMatte Display produces soft, even light with minimal sparkle, glare, or distraction.

During my usage, the display is often delivering perfect brightness regardless of the lighting condition. With the 1.07 billion colours and P3 wide colour gamut, watching contents on the tablet feels great. The responsiveness of the touchscreen is also accurate and quick.

When used together with the HUAWEI M-Pencil 3rd Generation, the response is good but you may noticed a minimal slow response if you pixel peep the stylus movement and the stroke’s animation.

Performance – Plentiful to handle any task

Powering the tablet is the Kirin T92 chip (information from HUAWEI website) with 12 GB of RAM, while running HarmonyOS 4.3. The tablet also comes with an innovative 3D heat dissipation architecture and heat conduction, offering 85% longer Turbo duration and 10℃ lower junction temperature under heavy workloads. The only time you noticed the benefit of the 3D heat dissipation architecture and heat conduction is when you play intensive gaming title such as Genshin Impact, you hardly will feel any heat from the tablet during a 10 minute gameplay.

If you love gaming, the gaming performance on the tablet is quite good, however, I do encounter weird graphic bugs on Asphalt Legends Unite. I tried to sideload Genshin Impact on the tablet, it has managed to surprised me as it can cope up with Max graphic settings with 60fps.

In terms for productivity, you can make the tablet as your video editing tool or office solver. The Petal Clip is easy to use and content creators can produce their content on the tablet. As the MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is supporting PC-level WPS Office, you can enjoy handling your documents to your excel sheets.

If jotting notes or sketching is your thing, the HUAWEI Notes and GoPaint are the two apps that will let your maximise the HUAWEI M-Pencil 3rd Generation usage.

Audio – Mesmerizing 6x Speakers

The 6x Speakers on the MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is amazing. Through my usage, it offers a little bit amped up bass with better clarity and loudness. If you’re planning to listen music or watching contents, they are truly delivering near expensive Hi-Fi audio system. It even gets better when you use it for gaming.

Camera – Flagship camera but do you even use it that often?

The camera system on the tablet features a 50 MP main camera (f/1.8 aperture, AF), 8 MP ultrawide camera (wide angle length, f/2.2 aperture, FF), rear LED flash and a 16 MP front camera (wide angle length, f/2.0 aperture, FF).

In photography, the main camera will deliver amazing photos will good dynamic range and properly exposed. The ultrawide still gets good wide angle shots, however you need good lighting to get a good shots so use the LED Flash to assist. But what surprised me is the front camera, which delivers good low-light selfie photo and dynamic range is good.

MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition can shoot videos up to 4K 30fps on the main camera while the ultrawide and front camera will max out at 1080p 30fps video recording. The video recording quality from the camera is good as long you are not picky on the frame rate.

While the camera does perform above average, I still have my doubt that users will use it often. But when you do have to use it, the camera is quite reliable.

Battery

With a 10,100 mAh dual-cell battery, the MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is capable of lasting whole day if you required to use it intensively for a full day. If you don’t use too often, it is possible for the battery life to last around 2-3 days of battery life. You can even extend the battery life longer with Smart Power Conserve, which HUAWEI claimed the tablet can be idling up to a year.

The tablet also supports 100W HUAWEI SuperCharge, so your downtime is quite minimal as it can goes from empty to 80% battery level in 40 minutes and 65 minutes to the maximum.

Verdict

Well, being priced at RM4,999, the 2025 HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition has to deliver the best and it sure does. It feels complete for the tablet user and it’s versatility serves a wide range of usage. Whether you’re an artist, settling documents, love the game’s adrenaline rush or just wind down with entertainment, the MatePad Pro 13.2″ PaperMatte edition is able to meet your demand.

For recommendation, I’ll just say put it in your buying list as the price tag could be hefty to some. But if you do have the budget, it’s worth taking a look.

Ratings wise, it gets a 8.9 out of 10. The performance and features with the price tag, its quite fair in the market however it might take some persuasion to change into HUAWEI ecosystem. If you do leap over, you will just simply amazed how it can match up with the competition, despite its own shortcoming.
